I have to admit, it’s been a pretty rough summer.
Let’s start by listing a few of the big things: crazy heart break and rejection in the love department, career plans turned upside down, and now after working my tail feathers off all summer, I may potentially have to file a lawsuit against some very tricksy people to get paid for my hard work.
Add to it the little things: my iPhone run over by a car, grapefruit juice spilt on the keyboard of my MacBook, or my hair being accidentally dyed black and otherwise destroyed by a bad, bad woman masquerading as a hairstylist. Things which, taken individually, I should be able to shake off with a laugh. But add them to the major turmoil in my life, and I feel more or less crumpled by a summer of calamity.
So what’s a girl to do in this situation? Why, book a plane ticket to Europe, of course!
Just last Tuesday I decided to go all in, and I booked a ticket to Madrid leaving, well, this very next Tuesday. And with a mere six days to prepare to leave the country, I’ve spend the better part of the last three hiding under a blanket, crying until my face was swollen like a chipmunk. Time to pull it together and start packing!
I have no specific plans of what I am going to do or where I will go – I just know I want to make my way east across the Mediterranean, hopefully getting as far as Croatia. I have six weeks before returning to the States, and I want to take my time enjoying each place I am, so I am not attached to exactly how far I get. I have made a connection with one really nice person on Couchsurfing.org who is going to collect me from the airport in Madrid and let me stay with him for a few days while I sort out my next plans.
(Side note: Spanish people are just generally nice, but this guy seems REALLY nice, so I’m hoping he’s not a serial killer. I expect to be blogging and Instagramming like a menace, so if you hear nothing more from me after this post, you should know to send Interpol after Gonzalo in Madrid.)
All this as my way of saying, stay tuned dear readers, this blog is about to get more exciting in just a few days! WEEEEeeeeee!
